AI Interior Design Tools Compared: Photo Concepts and Editable Room Plans

Disclosure and method: AI Renovation publishes this guide and is one of the products discussed. Provider descriptions were checked on 10 September 2026. This is a comparison of documented workflows, not a hands-on output-quality ranking. We have not generated the same room in each service or verified every checkout and download.

Choose the output you need before choosing an interior design app. A new image can help you discuss a colour or style. An editable room model is more useful when you need to place objects repeatedly against dimensions you have measured. Neither a persuasive image nor a software model establishes that building work is safe or approved.

Four products, different starting points

ProductDocumented workflowWhen to consider itWhat to check first
AI RenovationUpload a photo, choose Interior restyle or a dedicated edit such as Wall paint, Flooring or Cabinet design, and generate a concept image. You have an existing room photo and want to explore its appearance. The result can change fixed features. It is not a measured plan, editable 3D model or exact product specification.
RoomGPTIts public site describes redesigning a room from one photo and shows room-theme examples. You want to evaluate another photo-redesign service.Confirm current account, credit, download and usage terms in the product. Our RoomGPT comparison records the public facts and unresolved checks.
Planner 5DDescribes photo design ideas alongside floor-plan and 2D/3D planning functions. You also need an editable planning workflow.Check which feature accepts your input and which plan permits the required export. Photo AI and a measured model are different outputs.
HomestylerDescribes room design tools and AI image workflows in its app.You want to assess room planning and AI visual tools within one platform. Its membership table separates AI credits, rendering and download features. Check the exact tier and billing term.

Match the tool to the decision

For a wall-colour decision, a dedicated colour edit may be easier to assess than a complete style change. For furniture fit, measure the room and furniture and use a dimensioned plan; an attractive sofa in a generated photo is not evidence it fits. For a renovation brief, combine labelled concept images with your existing measurements, priorities and real product samples.

In AI Renovation, start at the room visualizer. Interior restyle uses a style preset; dedicated tools expose their own controls. Wall paint has a colour choice, Flooring a material choice, and Furniture preview needs a second image. These are modes in one Studio, not separate design applications. The product does not promise to preserve geometry exactly.

Compare the amount you would actually spend

AI Renovation requires an account to generate. New accounts receive three trial credits for eligible still-image tools; a still costs one credit. Custom prompt requires a paid plan and video is quoted separately from 15 credits. The published monthly plans are US$19 for 50 credits and US$39 for 250 credits. That is a subscription commitment, not a one-image purchase price. Check the current plans and mode limits before subscribing.

For any alternative, record the total billed amount, currency, billing period, included attempts, download limits and whether unused credits expire. Divide the actual amount spent by the images you can use after checking them. A low theoretical price per credit does not tell you how many acceptable images you will obtain.

A fair trial checklist

  1. Use the same permissioned room photo and the same visual objective.
  2. List the features that must stay: windows, doorways, floor boundaries and built-ins.
  3. Record each attempt, its credit charge and any error or unwanted change.
  4. Inspect the downloaded image, not only the preview. Check its size, watermark and usage terms.
  5. Keep any planning or building decision separate from the visual preference.

Use the blank comparison record to capture the same input, cost, controls and errors for each candidate. This checklist describes how to compare products; it is not a report of tests we have performed. The house-design software guide explains the distinction between photo concepts and drawing tools in more detail.
